Duncan b.1789 was a agricultural labourer, followed by deer forester (gamekeeper) and latterly a postmaster. He was the first person to climb the Cuillin mountain range in Skye. On July 7th 1836, he guided Professor Forbes to the summit of Sgurr nan Gillean, in English, “The Peak of the Boys”. The route they pioneered is now known as the Tourist Route The previous year Duncan climbed Bruach na Frithein in English “Hill of the Deer Forrest” or “Angry Hill”.
